What is RGB and RGBW on an LED TV?

In this post we show you the difference between a TV with RGB panel and a RGB-W TV. These acronyms refer to the color of the LEDs they contain: Red, Green, Blue and White.

What is usual and what is available in medium-high-range 4K televisions is the RGB panel, the RGBW panel is present in a few models.

Which is better?

Thus, RGB is superior, since 4K resolution involves a certain number of Red / Green / Blue pixels that the RGB panel "tricks" by adding a White pixel.

What does this difference mean?

The difference lies in the resolution, according to an expert user:

"... seeing aerial golf presentations ... it was more difficult to see grass blade and grass patterns on the RGBW screen." AVFORMUS

We can also make it clear that it is difficult to realize the difference by watching TV, movies, etc.
According to LG (who is the one who offers this technology in some models).

"RGBW TV meets all the qualifications required to render 4K Ultra HD images"

More differences:

The brightness is something different also, if the images are very luminous but not of strident colors the white pixel can help, if it is a very luminous image of saturated colors it is counterproductive.

Consumption is lower in RGBW panels because to provide brighter images use the white LED. Thus the LG SJ810V in 55 inches consumes 10% less than the SJ850V.

Conclusion:

While it is true that to choose to appear that the RGB is superior, it is very difficult that we get to score the difference if we sit on our sofa 2-3 meters away. We think that there are other factors to consider, more important for most users before choosing a new TV.
