LG OLED A1: Cheapest OLED TV 2021?

The LG OLED A1 is a 2021 high-end TV. This TV is the cheapest of the 2021 OLED TVs. As a good OLED TV it offers spectacular blacks, deep blacks even with the lights off as well as the best viewing angle. But there is life beyond the OLED panel and the LG A1 is where it "limps": the native frequency of the panel is 50Hz and that in fast moving images you can notice it also does not include any HDMI2.1 port, it is not prepared for the new consoles of the future. Other aspects to take into account are the maximum brightness, which is behind Samsung's QLEDs. Our opinion LG A1 (veredict):

Our opinion on the LG A1 is not entirely good although it is a very good TV. We can speak highly of any OLED TV, but in this case they have saved to make it a cheaper TV and launch it even in 48 inches. The saving of the 50Hz panel and not including HDMI2.1 seems to us that it is too much to spend more than £1200 on a 55-inch TV. If you really want an excellent TV to watch movies in the dark or sports with the whole family, this is an excellent TV, it gives you everything you are looking for. If you are more fussy and you are going to play with the TV or watch high quality HDR content, it may be that spending the cost of the OLED LG C1 you will feel better with your new TV.

Samsung AU9000. Is It a good tv?

The Samsung AU9005 is a mid-range 2021 4K TV. This is the best non-QLED model of the brand for this year. CrystalColor color technology has good color reproduction. The VA panel has a native frequency of 50Hz, typical of the low range, but the VA panel obtains good contrast, good for watching movies in the dark but loses color intensity when placed on the side of the screen. The Slim design with less than 3cm thick is possible thanks to the EdgeLED panel which is not the best panel, but allows an UltraSlim design. The Smart platform is one of the best as every year, it includes all the necessary applications and it works really well. Audio is not the best as in all mid-range LED TVs. As an extra in the mid-range it includes the Motion Xcelerator Turbo: The game processor optimizes the sharpness of moving images allowing you to play fluently at 120Hz. The Samsung AU9075 is the same TV as the AU9005, we have not found any difference, it seems that it is a model sold exclusively by stores.

Our opinion Samsung AU9000 (veredict):

Our opinion on the Samsung AU9005 isn't entirely good unless you're really looking for a mid-range TV to play games with. It is not a bad TV to watch TV or movies and the Smart platform is the best but the Samsung AU8005 is almost identical and is cheaper. The best we can say about this TV is that the design is high-end, the image is correct and the Smart is good good. If you are looking for a TV to view from the sides, a TV with an IPS panel is better, which have less contrast, less black blacks but instead have a better viewing angle.

Sony X80J: our review (X81J)

The Sony X81JAEP is a low-end 2021 model. The resolution is 4K as in "all" the TVs of this year. The panel is IPS (ADS) that offers wide viewing angles at the cost of losing depth of blacks, if you turn off the lights the blacks look gray. The panel is DirectLED with native 50Hz and although it is compatible with "all" HDR formats the panel is 8bits. The processor is not the best of Sony, but it works really well: 4K HDR Processor X1. The GoogleTV is good, it is already at the height of the Smart platforms of Samsung or LG, but it is not our favorite. They do not have HDMI 2.1, available from the X85J, the top model. The Sony X82J is almost identical, the main difference is aesthetics, with another type of base. Also I have 400Hz of MotionFlow instead of 200Hz.

Our opinion Sony X80J (veredict):

Our opinion on the Sony X81J is not very good, it is a low-end TV but Sony is usually a relatively expensive brand. This TV mounts an IPS DirectLED panel with native 50Hz, low-end specifications although it does not mean that it is a bad TV, it is what it is and our most outstanding drawback is the price since paying for "the quality" that Sony offers us in the low-end does not seem like the best option. It is a TV suitable for large living rooms or for those with sofas on the sides due to its good viewing angle, on the contrary it is not the most suitable TV for watching movies. If you are looking for a TV with these characteristics, we prefer to look at some "economic" LG that offers us the same benefits at a lower price: for example the LG UP80006.

LG UP75006: Cheapest 4K 2021

The LG UP7500 TV [UP75006] is of the "mid-low" range. It's one of LG's cheapest TVs for 2021, the resolution is 4K, and the SmartTV platform is good. The Panel IPs allow good viewing angles but the contrast is somewhat poor if you are a home theater lover. It is a TV more than enough for most homes and its price is low, just over £500 in 55 inches, a very affordable price. For us it is the TV that we would buy for our parents or for a family that wants a TV just to watch TV, to connect to Netflix etc. The SmartTV webOS 6.0 platform is the same as in high-end televisions but does not include the Magic Control remote control, otherwise it is the same TV as the LG UP7700, which does include this remote control and is usually a bit more expensive. Sony A80J / A84J is an excellent 2021 OLED TV. Sony has launched this year an OLED panel with GoogleTV as a Smart platform and with HDMI 2.1 ports prepared for true gamers. The A80J offers 4K resolution and a powerful image processor that handles low-quality content well. The HDR formats that it allows with: HDR10, DolbyVision and HLG. The OLED panel offers the blackest blacks and an unbeatable viewing angle, making it a suitable TV for all uses and for any situation in the room, even if the sun shines directly on the screen (not recommended) or it is a Very sunny room may lack a bit of maximum brightness. Our opinion about the Sony A80J is very good, we are in front of some of the best televisions of the moment. 4K resolution and a good Smart platform. OLED screens are for us the best of the best, even if they don't have as much brightness as Samsung's best QLEDs. The audio is one of the best in current televisions, although we always recommend buying an external audio system if you are going to buy a £2000 TV. The price that we recommend as a reference is about £1500 in 55 inches, so you must wait for the price to drop or get a good deal. The only question that arises is whether to spend more on the older brother Sony A90J or if the LG C1 OLED is better, which we also recommend a little more for gamers. In conclusion, you are buying the Sony A80J this year 2021, you are not making a mistake.

The Sony X90J is a high-end TV, without reaching the Top, 2021. This is for us one of the best quality-price televisions that you can buy. As technical characteristics they have everything we ask for: Native 100Hz FullArray panel, VA technology, good Smart platform (AndroidTV). The Sony X90J and its variants: X92J, X93J and X94J, are prepared for gamers with HDMI 2.1 ports and low input lag. For home theater lovers the image is good, a contrast of the best (leaving OLEDs aside) and deep blacks even in bright conditions. The maximum brightness peak is also sufficient to reproduce the best HDR contents: HDR 10, Dolby Vision, HLG. Sound more than enough for many, but we recommend external audio equipment to set up a home theater.

Our opinion about the Sony X90J is very good, for us it is the best without entering the top range of OLED or QLED from Samsung. This is one of the best TVs in value for money just like the 2020 XH9096 model. This TV is better in contrast, with deeper blacks, better for cinema and better brightness to improve HDR quality content, on the other hand, the color palette is one point lower than the 2020 model. 4K quality works very well so it is a TV for all uses, even gamers. The only point for which we can discourage this TV is if you are going to see it from the sides since it loses quality if we do not see it more or less from the front.

The Samsung QN95A (QN94A) is the best TV of the brand with 4K resolution for this year 2021. The Samsung QN95A is practically the same TV as the Samsung QN90A, with small differences such as better HDMI ports, OneConnect connectivity, ... The audio is somewhat More powerful. Our opinion on the Samsung QN85A is good for a normal TV, but not great for a TV of this price.
