Guide to buying TV 2021. What TV do I buy?

We present to you which are the main technical characteristics and we give you tips so that you can choose the best TV that suits your budget and your needs. For us, these steps that we show you below are the ones you must follow when you go to find a new TV. Some of these features are not advertised so you should turn to blogs like this one to read the reviews of some models. If you don't want to read our guide, you can visit our post: What TV should you buy in 2021?

Budget

The money that you are willing to spend is not a technical characteristic, but it is for us the first step, we must set a budget to know what we can aspire to, you will always find a TV that is a little better or a little bigger and a little more expensive, so setting a budget is the first step for us.

Screen size

The size will be defined by the gap we have in the furniture and by the distance at which we put the sofa. As a guide, the minimum recommended distance for viewing distance are:

Our advice is that once the budget is set, we buy the largest TV possible, since the rest of the speciations are important, but what you will notice most in the end is the size of the screen.

LCD-LED or OLED panel

OLED TVs are the best of the moment, but they are very expensive. There are some LCD-LED TVs that measure up, like Samsung's high-end QLEDs, but they are no cheaper than LG's OLEDs. For us if the budget is high: more than £1500 in 55 ", we have no doubts and you should choose an OLED TV.

IPS or VA panel

If the budget does not reach you for an OLED TV, which is the most common, we believe that it is important to choose between an IPS or VA television.

TV with VA panel: They offer good contrast and deep blacks, while the viewing angle is reduced. Recommended if you are going to watch TV more or less from the front, if you like to watch movies with the lights off, ...

IPS panel TV: They offer a wide viewing angle but the contrast is somewhat poor and with the lights off the blacks can be seen somewhat gray. Ideal for large rooms, large families, ...

EdgeLED, FALD, DirectLED backlight

This is a very important aspect for the contrast and for the uniformity of the image but there is not much to choose from, our budget will define the type of panel that the TV has, since EdgeLEDs are what low-end TVs mount. , some DirectLEDs and only the mid-high range include a FALD panel, which would be ideal.

Refresh rate:

Although many brands advertise 2000Hz or 4000Hz data there are actually only native 50 or 100Hz televisions, obviously if the TV is 100Hz better than better, fast moving images like sports or action movies will look smoother. Only the high-end models have native 100Hz.

Brand

Currently there are a few brands available in stores, but for us there are 3 recommended above the rest: Samsung, LG and a little behind Sony (although it has a highly recommended model). If you want to look for something cheaper we recommend Hisense or Xiaomi, and if you are looking for the cheapest televisions of 2021 you should look for white brands such as: OK from MediMarkt or Selecline from Alcampo, brands that we do not recommend

Other aspects to consider:

Color depth in bits: there are 8-bit, 8-bit + FCR and 10-bit televisions, this will allow us to reproduce more colors. It is an important aspect but we do not think it should influence the majority of buyers.

HDR: improves the quality of 4K content, some brands opt for DolbyVision and others for HDR10 +. Another aspect that should not decide your purchase.

SmartTV: Before it was one of the main characteristics to take into account, but today all televisions have a good platform to access Netflix, they have Wi-Fi, ...

Resolution: "All" the current televisions are 4K (UltraHD), in some models of small size, 32 inches and less, the resolution is FullHD or HDReady. There are also 8K TVs in 2021, but they are very expensive or have other inferior features or other similarly priced TVs. It is not worth buying an 8K TV at the moment

Conclusion

There are many aspects to take into account when choosing a television but in reality the most important thing is the size and the budget since this will mark what image quality you can aspire to. Better a native 100Hz TV than 50, better a FALD TV than EdgeLED, ... but this is a never ending. In general, for average users they have plenty of a mid-range TV, from Samsung or LG with a good Smart to watch Netflix and with a price of about GPB600 in 55 inches. If you have questions about any of these aspects or about a specific model, you can leave us a message in the comments and we will try to help you.

LG UP75006: Cheapest 4K 2021

The LG UP7500 TV [UP75006] is of the "mid-low" range. It's one of LG's cheapest TVs for 2021, the resolution is 4K, and the SmartTV platform is good. The Panel IPs allow good viewing angles but the contrast is somewhat poor if you are a home theater lover. It is a TV more than enough for most homes and its price is low, just over £500 in 55 inches, a very affordable price. For us it is the TV that we would buy for our parents or for a family that wants a TV just to watch TV, to connect to Netflix etc. The SmartTV webOS 6.0 platform is the same as in high-end televisions but does not include the Magic Control remote control, otherwise it is the same TV as the LG UP7700, which does include this remote control and is usually a bit more expensive. For more information you can read our full opinion of the LG UP77006 which is the same as we have of this TV. You can also read the comparison between the economic models of LG 4K 2021.

Best TV 2021 4K comparison OLED C1 QLED QN95 Sony A80J

Our comparison between the best televisions of 2021. In this post we offer you our score and the main differences that we have found between the best televisions that can be bought during 2021. We have chosen the TVs: LG OLED C1, Sony A80J and Samsung QN95A Since they are TOP televisions but without an exaggerated price, they are the best in high-end without going over budget (£1800 in 55 inches.

It should be noted that there are higher-end televisions such as the Sony Z9, QN900A or the OLED LG G1 that we reviewed on our blog, but their price is exaggerated for us and we do not recommend their purchase.

Comparison LG OLED C1 vs Sony OLED A80J vs Samsung QLED QN90A

From the outset, the main difference is the panel: while the Sony and the LG are OLED, the Samsung is QLED. In general, OLED panels are somewhat better for us, with infinite contrast, unsurpassed blacks coupled with the greater viewing angle; the QLED panel offers unsurpassed colors and maximum brightness.

The LG C1 may present some reflections if it has a direct light source, like the A80J and like all OLEDs, the maximum brightness is not its strongest point. The QLED QN90A has a maximum brightness unsurpassed by any OLED panel and the blacks get close to the OLEDs but do not reach and the viewing angle is somewhat reduced.

Price:

  • 65 inch £2000
  • 55 inches £1500

Our score:

This score is totally subjective, it is formed from subjective personal sensations, different reviews and does not attend to technical aspects or numerical measurements.

Versions:

The Sony A80J is the same TV as the A84J and the Samsung QN90 is the same as the QN95 with minor variations. The LG C1 has an older brother with a top panel - OLED G1.

Full opinion:

Sony A80J: the most recommended OLED 2021? (A84J)

Sony A80J / A84J is an excellent 2021 OLED TV. Sony has launched this year an OLED panel with GoogleTV as a Smart platform and with HDMI 2.1 ports prepared for true gamers. The A80J offers 4K resolution and a powerful image processor that handles low-quality content well. The HDR formats that it allows with: HDR10, DolbyVision and HLG. The OLED panel offers the blackest blacks and an unbeatable viewing angle, making it a suitable TV for all uses and for any situation in the room, even if the sun shines directly on the screen (not recommended) or it is a Very sunny room may lack a bit of maximum brightness. As for the sound system, it has Acoustic Surface Audio +: the sound comes directly from the screen, with actuators behind the TV that vibrate.

* The Sony A84J is pretty much the same: but it includes Essentially Rich Color Enhancer enhances neutral colors to a more vivid tone and a built-in microphone

  • The best: OLED, HDMI 2.1, 4K upscaling
  • The worst: maximum brightness

Alternative to Sony A80J?

Do not forget to check out out "TV Buying Guide"
  • LG OLED C1: The direct competitor, very similar in image quality but somewhat better for gamers.
  • Samsung QLED QN90A: It is not an OLED but it can compete with them

Our opinion Sony A80J (veredict):

Our opinion about the Sony A80J is very good, we are in front of some of the best televisions of the moment. 4K resolution and a good Smart platform. OLED screens are for us the best of the best, even if they don't have as much brightness as Samsung's best QLEDs. The audio is one of the best in current televisions, although we always recommend buying an external audio system if you are going to buy a £2000 TV. The price that we recommend as a reference is about £1500 in 55 inches, so you must wait for the price to drop or get a good deal. The only question that arises is whether to spend more on the older brother Sony A90J or if the LG C1 OLED is better, which we also recommend a little more for gamers. In conclusion, you are buying the Sony A80J this year 2021, you are not making a mistake.

What TV to buy 2021 September

We recommend that you buy LED TV in September 2021. Among all the models for sale we find some new (2021) and some models from last year (2020). There are many factors to take into account before choosing a TV, we recommend you visit our guide to buying TV before choosing a new TV. In this post we offer you our personal assessment of the best TVs without going into technical aspects.

What TV to buy in 2021?

There are many models on the market, from various brands and with small differences between them, but there are some televisions that are recommended and others that are not. We show you some of the best televisions that you can buy according to their value for money and according to what best suits your needs.

TV for the whole family 2021:

TVs that are considered low-end but look good, good Smart and 4K resolution. Good connectivity. Ideal for those who simply want an updated modern TV and connected to the internet to enjoy all streaming platforms.

LG UP7700: it is the TV with an IPS panel that we recommend for all audiences, it is the TV that I bought for my parents, good to watch TV, to watch sports and enough for the Netflix and Movistar series that can be accessed from it TV. Good viewing angle and low price.

Samsung AU8000: An ideal TV for all audiences but to see better from the front than from the sides, better than the LG UP7700 if you like to watch movies in the dark, it is not a wonder but more than enough for most.

          TV to watch movies 2021:

If you are a movie lover and enjoy sitting on the couch, popcorn, turn off the lights and put on a movie or series. They have a FALD panel that is superior to previous TVs so they are somewhat more expensive.

Sony XH9005: a very good TV of 2020, which is a good option if you find it on sale. This is what we consider the best quality-price TV of 2020. Ideal for watching movies, deep blacks, also good for gamers and for watching TV. This is the TV that I bought last year.

Samsung Q80A: A 2021 QLED TV, it is similar in panel to the Sony. This is the Samsung QLED that we like the most, a very balanced TV at a relatively reasonable price. good for all uses but somewhat fair viewing angle. Deep blacks and shines more than enough. The Smart platform works very well and is very complete.

          TV for gamers 2021:

For video game lovers we believe that it is as important to choose a suitable TV as it is to choose between PlayStation or XBOX. A TV for gamers must have a native frequency of 100Hz, a FALD panel and HDMI2.1 ports.

Sony X90J: Excellent 2021 TV that updates the already good XH9096. It is prepared for gamers with HDMI 2.1 ports and a low input lag, also good for cinema and other uses. A TV that is worth more than it costs.

          Best TV 2021:

For us, and despite the fact that there are some who disagree, the best current televisions are OLEDs, specifically LG OLEDs. These types of TVs look good from the front and from the sides, offering deep blacks and excellent panel uniformity. They are also very good for gamers. Although there are other brands like Sony that also offer OLED TVs, for us LG is the queen in this market and the only question is how much are you willing to spend to buy an excellent TV.

LG OLED CX: it is an OLED 2020 that is still for sale in many stores, its price has dropped a lot because the new models have come out and it is the best option to not spend a lot and get the best image quality.

LG OLED C1: the 2021 update of the CX, very similar but with a more powerful processor. If you buy this TV you are not wrong. It is available from 48 inches and up. If you really do not have budget problems you can buy the superior OLED LG G1 model, although we do not think it will drop £1800 until the end of 2021.

          Conclusion:

For us, these are the televisions to take into account, although there are many more models and many design variants of these, in our blog you can find our complete review of all televisions for sale this 2021 in Spain. In general, we are not convinced by the low-end Sony X80J TVs or the mid-high-end LG Nanocell TVs. If you have questions about any specific models you can leave a comment and we will try to advise you.
